Notes From Childhood. Mixed Media on Board.
Samuel Beckett once said that: to restore silence is the role of objects. I don't know that he ever explained it, but maybe something in the mute object quiets us, and quieted we see more carefully. The Watching is a series of mixed-media works that began with walks in the noisy, incongruous neighborhood where I grew up, and have become a kind of quieted, mental scenography with graphite and wax-pencil drawing, detritus, texts, and textiles that could have been in my family's home. Redolent with childhood memories and vulnerabilities, the work is a silent confrontation acted out in non-hierarchical space.

Joseph Beuys said very simply: thought is represented by form. Fleeting memories, the stirrings of the unconscious, these are difficult to pinpoint though they leave residue as thought, and if one is marking a surface, as inchoate sign. The Watching.
